Sativa originally comes from around the equator, from countries like Colombia, Mexico, Thailand and Cambodia. Cannabis sativa grows to greater heights and can reach well over 3-4 metres in the open ground. The individual floors are more widely spaced and there are fewer branches overall. In really ideal conditions, some cannabis varieties can grow to over 5-7 metres.

The flowering period ranges from 8 to 12 weeks. The flowers (cones) of these plants are much airier and the leaves are narrower and oblong in shape. Sativas generally take longer to flower than indicas and, due to their high THC content, have a strong effect on the psyche of each individual.

marijuana leaf ruderalis

An annual dioecious plant reaching 60-150 cm tall, rather sparsely branched, with a weakly furrowed stem, weakly fibrous. The foliage is not very dense, but the leaves are quite large, with 3-5 lobes.

This weedy species without significant narcotic effects is easy on the soil and climate. It is resistant to diseases and pests.

Its original home is southeastern Russia (Volga, Ural, Caucasus, western Siberia), Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Iran, Mongolia, China and the Far East. Secondarily, it spread to Central Europe (southern Moravia and Slovakia) and northeastern Europe (Poland, Lithuania, Estonia). It also grows in the USA and southern Canada.

Unlike Sativa and Indica, the beginning of the flowering phase is not dependent on the length of the day. It simply starts flowering after a certain age. This ability of Cannabis ruderalis has become popular in recent years and is why breeders use it to develop so-called Autoflowers varieties. Since then, varieties without this ability have been called photoperiodic.
