Marijuana against chronic diseases

Chronic diseases and cannabis

Can marijuana help people with chronic diseases?

Cannabis is known for its ability to relieve seizures, pain and anxiety. But it can do so much more. There are also long-term illnesses that you can’t just get rid of and that can last a lifetime, called chronic diseases. Christine Misernadino, a self-described “spooner”, shares her experience.

Christine is fighting a chronic disease called lupus

The title came about because this lady was asked by one of her friends what it was like to live with a chronic diseases, and her presentation of the answer was quite interesting.

In the restaurant she suddenly started to collect all the spoons and then returned to the table. She explained to her that each spoon represented one particular activity on one particular day. One activity = one spoon. You can borrow a spoon from another day, but what will if you miss it?

The funny thing was that a lot of people ran out of “spoons” before they left the house in the morning. It makes you wonder what is the biggest priority for you during the day.

For people with chronic illness, some daily activities are strenuous. If something exhausts you during the day, you certainly don’t want to exhaust yourself physically or mentally and then feel worse.

For every”spooner” there’s a helper.

When asked what her daily activities are, she answered very promptly. “Whatever they are, I couldn’t do without cannabis.”

The cannabis use “took the spoons off” in one day, but overall it helped her so much that she managed each day much, much better.

Marijuana works as an admirable panacea. I’m sure you’ve heard of it. This is thanks to the function of the endocannabinoid system, which is in our body and helps us in many cases.

The following examples show which chronic diseases are the most serious and how marijuana can help you.

Lupus

Christine suffers from this very disease. In this case, our immune system works hyperactively, which means that it attacks healthy cells, tissues and organs. It attacks different parts of our body, hence the multitude of symptoms. Generally these include fatigue, headaches, joint pain and weakness, anemia, confusion or memory loss, swelling, chest pain when breathing, hair loss, blood discoloration, ulcers and in some cases organ failure.

Unfortunately, the science is still in the dark and it is not known exactly how cannabis helps against lupus. However, cannabis, through the ECS (endocannabinoid system), can restore normal immune system function, leading to the relief of the above symptoms.

Lupus, according to medical reports, can perfectly mimic the symptoms of other chronic diseases for which cannabis has worked in a similar way.

Fibromyalgia

This particular case has similar symptoms to lupus. The worst thing is that no one has yet discovered the real cause of this disease.

The worst thing about this disease is the extreme reaction to pain. So, “damage”, for example, to the leg (sprain, fracture) is initially manifested on the whole body, only then the pain recedes to the specific area where the injury is located.

Anxiety, excessive fatigue, depression, headaches and joint pain are also common symptoms.

Fortunately, many tests have already been carried out in groups with this disease. In most of them, this has been achieved by improving the function of the immune system. This has led to the suppression of some symptoms. Many of the participants then stopped taking classic medicines.

Crohn’s disease and colitis

These two diseases are the basic forms of chronic intestinal inflammation, i.e. the most serious ones. Both are characterised by inflammation in the digestive tract. Colitis is usually confined to the large intestine, whereas Crohn’s disease can occur throughout the digestive tract.

Both of these diseases result in lower abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, rectal bleeding, fever, fatigue, vomiting, weight loss, anorexia and eating disorders.

In this case, marijuana also works as expected. It’s not 100% yet, but the results are there. Among other functions, marijuana has the ability to alleviate the manifestations of inflammatory diseases. Again, this is due to the function of the ECS combined with the proper functioning of the immune system.

A small step has also been taken in the field of research against Crohn’s disease. Patients who started treatment with cannabis showed an improvement in digestive function. For some, surgery associated with the disease was ruled out. Others have stopped taking the prescribed medication or reduced the dosage.

Insight into culture

There are, of course, many more chronic diseases. Although it is clear that cannabis use has helped-helps people with these illnesses, many people still don’t know much about it, pay attention to it, or care about it. The results of marijuana users, however, are much better than those who take conventional medications.

Take America. There, 27% of the population suffers from chronic diseases, and some have more than one. In Europe, according to the World Health Organisation, it is 24%.

We are talking about people in many cases whose illness cannot be seen with the naked eye. That is why they are called “invisible diseases”. Many of them have their daily “spoons”. Taking a particular variety or extract would certainly help them and they could spend their days doing something other than counting what they can or cannot do.
