Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is burning it, but sometimes we fancy something more interesting. Fortunately, there is another, tastier way to consume it that you can certainly incorporate into your daily routine! We’re talking about a cup of hot and rich tea with kief. Watch below to find out all the details!

What’s Kief?

How to make Kief tea - Kief powder

When cannabis plants mature, something that looks like powder appears on their leaves and flowers. This is known as kief – a thick substance and accumulation of trichomes, where most of the cannabinoids are stored.

The effects of Kief tea

If you are looking for alternative ways to enjoy kief, you may be interested in making kief tea. Kief tea works in many ways like edible tea, giving a slow and long-lasting high that depends on a number of factors, such as the amount of kief used, the quality of the kief and whether the kief has been decarboxylated before infusion.

Composition of Kief tea

To make kief tea, all you need is the tea of your choice, kief and a binder such as milk, cream or butter. In order to feel the full effect of THC, it needs a fatty substance with which it can bind properly. We’ll give more details below, but if you want the full THC experience, you’ll need to first properly break down your kief, dissolve it and bind it to something fat-soluble.

How To Make Kief Tea

Kief can be added to tea in several ways, some of which have a mild effect and some of which are much stronger. The strength of your kief tea depends on the method of preparation and the amount of kief brewed.

The simple way

If you are looking for a mild carbonated tea with kief, you can simply sprinkle some kief on top of the tea and stir it into the drink. You will experience mild effects for a short period of time, so this method is great if you don’t want to achieve the full effects of the edible.

More effective Kief tea

The latter method requires a little more work, but is an essential step if you want to make a stronger tea drink with kief.

First of all: Decarboxylate your Kief

How to make Kief tea: Decarboxylate

Decarboxylation is the process of heating cannabis over a period of time to activate the THC molecules in your cannabis. To decarburise your kief, first place it in a covered, ovenable container (such as a bowl or plate). Place it in an oven preheated to 149°C (about 300°F) for 10 to 20 minutes (depending on the amount of kief – about 1 gram per serving). Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before proceeding to the next step.

Then add your decarbonized Kief to the fat

Once the kief has been decoloured, add it to whatever fat-soluble substance you intend to add to your tea. Dissolve your kief completely in high-fat butter or high-fat milk; this will be the base of your kief tea and will give you the full effects of THC. Once dissolved, add directly to your tea or store in the fridge for up to 2 months for later!

It’s not just tea!

Kief can be added not only to tea, but also to any other favourite hot beverage! Sprinkling kief on your morning coffee or espresso will give you a good start to the day and induce a mild high that lasts about 15 to 30 minutes. In the colder months, you can also enjoy a delicious mug of hot cocoa with a sprinkling of kief for an even bigger cannabis boost.

Take a drink and enjoy!

Now that you know how to make delicious kief tea, play around with different types of tea and milk to create your perfect kief tea recipe. Kief tea is a unique way to use up excess kief and a fun, discreet way to enjoy edibles on the go!
