Here are a few well-known personalities who have publicly declared their support and belief in medical cannabis.
1. Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg used a vape pen for glaucoma and menstrual pain.
In 2016, Whoopi Goldberg teamed up with Om Edibles founder Maya Elisabeth to create Whoopi & Maya, a line of medical hemp products including bath bombs, balms, cocoa bars and herbal tinctures.
Whoopi advocates using her vape pen to treat headaches caused by glaucoma, saying it replaces the “handfuls of Advil” she previously used to manage the condition.
2. Tommy Chong
Tommy Chong used hemp as a treatment for prostate cancer. With the comedy duo Cheech and Chong, he revealed to the press that he used cannabis oil to treat prostate cancer in its first stage. He said he stopped smoking for health reasons and used the oil at night. After a year, Chong was declared cancer-free; however, the cancer returned and when it did, he used a combination of radiation and treatment with high-CBD oil to beat it.
3. Morgan Freeman
Morgan Freeman uses cannabis for fibromyalgia.
Freeman stated that he wishes hemp was legalized and that he has found pain relief from fibromyalgia through it. Freeman has been open about his views on cannabis since 2003, when he said in an interview with The Guardian, “Never give up cannabis.”
In another interview, Morgan said: “Marijuana has many useful uses. I have fibromyalgia pain in this arm and the only thing that brings me relief is marijuana. They talk about kids having major seizures and marijuana has been found to relieve them enough that these kids can live. That says to me, “Legalize it across the board!”
4. Pete Davidson
Pete Davidson smokes cannabis to help with his Chron’s disease.
The comedy star recently said he smokes pot to combat some of the side effects of Crohn’s disease. This chronic inflammatory syndrome affects the digestive tract.
He explained, “I have Crohn’s disease, so this helps me more than you can imagine.” Davidson said Crohn’s causes him a lot of stomach pain and the medication suppresses his appetite.
“Weed would be the only thing that would help me eat because my stomach would hurt all day,” he told High Times in 2016. “If I didn’t smoke weed, I wouldn’t be able to play on SNL.”
5. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga used cannabis for hip pain. As a result of the strenuous late-night performances on the “Born This Way” tour, Lady Gaga had to undergo surgery to repair cartilage damage. After the surgery, she had to use a wheelchair.
To get rid of hip pain, Gaga started using cannabis, she said, smoking 15 to 20 joints a day.
6. Montel Williams
TV personality Montel Williams says marijuana changed his life.
Williams suffers from multiple sclerosis, a disease of the central nervous system that can cause severe chronic pain, fatigue and coordination problems.
Since 1999, he has supplemented his treatment with vaporizing a concentrated form of marijuana, as recommended by his doctor. “Today, cannabis ‘helps me function,'” Williams previously told Business Insider.
7. Michael J. Fox
Michael J. Fox, who has Parkinson’s, is advocating for marijuana use in Parkinson’s patients.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research is supporting a reclassification of the drug, so that its medical properties can be thoroughly researched and funded for mass medical use, along with other foundations for epilepsy, tourette’s, and other disorders.
However, given the limited research on cannabis, we still have to ask many questions about its supposed medicinal effects. Always consult your doctor before trying any alternative treatment.
