How to make hemp butter

The preparation of cannabis butter is simple. However, you should expect it to take several hours to prepare.

Along with oil, canna butter is one of the simplest and most common ways to make medicinal cannabis foods.

In order for the THC to combine properly with the butter, it needs to be heated to a relatively low temperature for a long time. For the preparation of this cannabis extract, we recommend using an electric “slow cooker”, which can perfectly maintain the set temperature and therefore makes the production of cannabutter much easier than on a conventional gas or electric stove. Main rule is to keeping the temperature lies in keeping the temperature between 90 °C and 120 °C so that the cannabis does not get too hot and burn its active cannabinoids.

Two ways to easily make hemp butter

The ingredients:

  1. 450 g butter
  2. 1 cup = 250 ml water ( additional water can be added at any time if needed, the water is only used for cooling. )
  3. 30 g ground cannabis ( the strength of the butter depends on the quality of the marijuana used )
  4. You can also experiment and use the spices of your choice, there are plenty of options ( citrus, honey, fruit, garlic, pepper, basil )

Note: Some people also use the leftovers from vaporizing cannabis because many vaporizers can’t use up all the THC. But it is just like using fan leaves, cannabis butter will be weaker of course.

Cooking on the stove:

  1. Put a cup of 250 ml of water and 450 g of butter in a pot or pan, let the butter melt and start cooking it on the lowest setting. Gradually adding more water helps to regulate the temperature and prevents the butter from burning.
  2. As the butter begins to melt, add the prepared ground cannabis marijuana.
  3. Keep the heat low and let the mixture cook slowly for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally. Make sure the mixture never comes to a full boil.

Cooking with the slow cooker:

  1. Set the pot to 95 °C and gradually add a 250 ml cup of water, 450 g of butter and 30 g of cannabis marijuana.
  2. Let the contents cook at 95 °C for 3 to 4 hours, stirring only occasionally and checking if additional water is needed to cool.

For both methods:

  1. Pour the hot mixture into a suitable container and use a fine sieve or cloth to filter out the remaining cannabis flowers. Finally, squeeze these marijuana cannabis remnants thoroughly to really get everything out of them.
  2. When the mixture has cooled sufficiently, place it in the fridge overnight, where the hemp butter will solidify nicely. Once hardened, carefully separate the hemp butter from the rest of the water and you can start using it in your recipes right away. Pour off the excess water.

Note: Do not use the microwave to soften or melt butter. Instead, allow the butter to soften at room temperature before processing.

As for dosage:

As for dosage, it is generally recommended to start with smaller amounts and check how “strong” the cannabutter will be. It is also important to bear in mind that the first effects are delayed compared to smoking cannabis, taking between 35 and 95 minutes, and can wear off after eight or more hours in extreme cases.

Cannabis butter will keep for up to two months in the fridge, ideally stored in the freezer.
